When a Conversation Among Directors Becomes Action
As fellow directors within Dignipets, we regularly discuss how we can better support the veterinary professionals working across our network.
One topic kept returning to the table: lone working.
Our vets and nurses enter unfamiliar environments every day. They often work independently and support families during some of the most emotionally charged moments in the lives of their pets.
The vast majority of visits are positive, respectful and deeply rewarding. However, we felt we had a responsibility to ask ourselves a difficult but important question:
Could we do more to support our people if circumstances ever became challenging or unpredictable?
Rather than waiting for a problem to arise, we decided to act proactively.
Bringing Different Expertise Together
What followed was a genuine collaboration between clinical, operational, technical and legal minds.
As directors, we identified the challenge and explored what good support might look like in a modern community-based veterinary service.
Our software engineer and IT developer, Kevin Redfern, helped us turn ideas into practical, workable technology that could integrate with the systems our teams already use.
Alongside this, we worked closely with our GDPR solicitor to ensure that any solution we developed was not only practical and supportive but also designed with privacy, governance and compliance at its core.
Every stage of the project involved balancing three important considerations:
- Supporting veterinary professionals
- Respecting client privacy
- Creating something that would genuinely work in real-world situations
That combination of veterinary experience, technical capability and legal expertise allowed us to develop a solution that reflects both the realities of mobile veterinary care and the responsibilities that come with it.
Supporting People Through Innovation
One of the things we are most proud of is that this project wasn’t driven by an incident.
It was driven by a desire to do better.
As our Dignipets Partners network continues to grow, we want our partners to know that support extends far beyond branding, marketing and business development.
We are continually investing in systems, technology and processes that make it safer, easier and more sustainable to deliver outstanding hospice and end-of-life care in the community.
Because while our mission is ultimately about supporting pets and their families, we believe caring for the people delivering that care is just as important.
